What are the differences between the N950 and the N9?

Hardware-wise, the N9 and the N950 are almost identical.

The biggest difference is obviously the hardware QWERTY keyboard on the N950, missing on the N9. The N950 is also slightly larger and heavier (~ 126 x 60 x 14 mm, 164 g) compared to the N9 (116.45 x 61.2 x 12.1 mm, 76 cc, 135 g).

When it comes to internals, both models share the same processor (single core OMAP3630 Cortex-A8 @ 1,0 GHz) and operating memory (1,0 GB SDRAM), as well as connectivity features (quad-band GSM and penta-band WCDMA, WLAN b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR, USB 2.0 High Speed.

The N9 additionally features the NFC (Near Field Communication) chip, which the N950 does not have.

The N950 has 4.0" TFT display whereas the N9 has 3.9" AMOLED one. Both share the same resolution of 854x480.

Both the N950 and the N9 contain the same size of storage memory (16 GB), however a 64 GB version of the N9 will also be available.

The N950 has an aluminium casing, while the N9 has policarbonate body.

Cameras are 8 Megapixel with HD 720p video recording and Dual LED flash on both models, however on the N9 the camera comes with Carl Zeiss branding, so while the imaging sensor is probably identical, the optics may be slightly different (i.e. better).

Both phones have non-removable batteries: 1450 mAh on the N9 and 1320 mAh on the N950. However, with the AMOLED screen being more power-hungry in certain situations, the resulting battery life should be pretty similar.

Oh, and the biggest difference is obviously that the N9 will be available commercially, while the N950 is a developer-only device, available only to selected developers...

The current build of N950 firmware is slightly different than N9 S/W, however an upgrade for the N950 is expected once the N9 becomes available. Being a developer device, the N950 S/W also contains certain developer tools preinstalled, which are not present on the N9.
