Today, at the Slush conference in Helsinki, Jolla has announced its Mer-based Sailfish
platform. A lot of information was dislosed, so quickly go ahead to the newly launched official Jolla sites and enjoy it:
Many of the questions you might want to ask have been answered in this Sailfish QA
so don't forget taking a look there.
And as a (moving) picture is better than 1000 words, just take a look at this Jolla Sailfish UI Hands-on Preview video

clip and even more on Jolla's official YouTube channel
The SDK will be released soon for Windows, Linux and OS X. If you can't wait by then, you can now follow the guide available at merproject.org
and build one (for Linux) yourself.
The first Jolla phone will be announced in Q1 2013, and available before Summer 2013. The platform will launch with support for ST Ericsson's Novathor chipsets and other chipsets will also be supported in the future. It will offer full multitasking directly through the home screen, new "Pulley menu" (containing functions to e.g. share photos or videos to social networks), and Android compatibility. Native software development will be Qt-based, just like on the Harmattan platform. HTML5 support is also planned through Cordova Qt.
