Firefox for mobile (codenamed Fennec) is the name of the build of the Mozilla Firefox web browser for devices such as mobile phones and personal digital assistants (PDAs).

Firefox (Fennec) for Nokia N9 / N950 / MeeGo Harmattan

Firefox (Fennec) for Nokia N9 / N950 / MeeGo Harmattan

Firefox for mobile versions use the same Gecko layout engine as their Firefox counterparts. Its features include tabbed browsing, password manager, location-aware browsing, and the ability to synchronize with the user's computer Firefox browser using Firefox Sync.

Firefox (Fennec) for Nokia N9 / N950 / MeeGo Harmattan

Firefox (Fennec) for Nokia N9 / N950 / MeeGo Harmattan

The user interface is completely redesigned for small screen optimization, the controls are hidden away so that only the web content is shown on screen and it uses touchscreen interaction methods in place of dragging actions with a mouse.

If you want to use flash this is the browser to use. Runs a little slow but so what...waiting a few seconds never killed anyone. I use this and the stock browser depending on what sites I'm going to. Really good layout in my opinion. [Rate: 9/10]

Hi everybody. I was using Fennec for a few days succesfuly, but suddenly it stopped working. I cannot load any web page, it says check your wifi connection or your data plan. I´m not in WiFi range, but on the built-in web browser N9 I normally use 3,5G gprs without problems. I dont remember, if I was in free WiFi range, when I used the app succesfuly, I used it only twice and after a month I tried it again and that happened. And I cant find any setting for the connection choice. Any idea? THX [No rate]

@ Anonymous: you install it just like any other .deb file. Just beam it to the phone via Bluetooth and then tap on it in the Transfer manager, or locate the file (it will be in MyDocs if copied from PC via USB or in MyDocs/Downloads if downloaded using the built-in browser) using any file manager and tap on the file for the installer to start... @ SAM: yes, there are newer versions, but they have less optimizations than the older nightly build, so they're slower while not really providing any additional features. That's why we still keep version 10 in our Downloads. Those newer versions don't even have JIT enabled. Higher version number doesn't always mean better. [No rate]

Hi guys, I'm new to this thing and I successfully installed fennec on my nokia n9. Unfortunately, when I opened it up, i didn't respond, so I tried to uninstall it with command "dpkg -r fennec", it's unsuccessful yet the firefox icon was gone. I rebooted my device and seen a red icon (!) that looks like this, anyone of you knows how to completely remove this? please. I need your help guys. any reply will greatly be appreciated. [No rate]

@ jl: the problem with downloading is caused by the built-in browser of the N9 not recognizing the file as binary (lack of proper MIME type configuration on the remote server). Regarding Flash, there is no Flash release for Harmattan at the moment, for any browser. The files you downloaded CANNOT be used because they are for the x86 (Intel) Linux while the N9 has an ARM CPU. [No rate]

To install i had to download it to my pc with usb in download folder. Then in the ovi store download a "file manager" app, and with this app going in /home/user/MyDocs/downloads and run it. A few times it said that the server was not responding. I tried later and it works finally and its simply perfect!! I just want to know how to install flash on it. I downloaded from adobe flash 2 files (flash-plugin-10.3.193.10-release.i386.rpm and install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz) but no one launch when i try to open it :( help!!! :) [Rate: 10/10]

@ sausage: the N9 doesn't recognize it as binary due to wrong MIME configuration on the remote server. Download it to your PC and then beam it to the phone. [No rate]

@ Robert Kaiser: it wasn't me who created this build and it isn't me who distributes it. The file is located on server of the person who created this build and we just link to it. Please also note the description above does clearly state that this is an unofficial build made by community. Please contact user called "shmerl" @ forum.meego.com - it is him who created this build and it is located on his server. This is not an official Mozilla build and it wrongly has been built with the Firefox trademark intact, so this is a violation of trademark rules and needs to be removed - as much as I love Firefox mobile and the N9, doing this and attributing it as a Mozilla-created build is against the rules. Thanks Michal, I have been able to install it, and it runs, however pinch to zoom doesn't work and it is pretty useless without that feature. What can be the problem? And Flash is still not supported, right? I just dumped my iPhone4 and bought this N9 2 days ago and I like everything about it however except the built-in browsing experience. I just need a proper browser running smoothly. [No rate]

@ moroporo: download it using your PC, then beam it to the phone. It looks that the server where the file is located doesn't have correct MIME type set for .deb files and that's why N9's browser does not recognize it as binary. [No rate]
